Founded in 1977, and located in the heart of New York's gem and jewelry district, American Gemological Laboratories (AGL) is an international gemstone testing facility specializing in comprehensive colored gemstone analysis. AGL provides detailed identification and enhancement reports, country-of-origin reports, as well as complete colored stone analysis documents tailored to gems of unique importance.
The Canadian Gemmological Association is a not-for-profit corporation that was established in 1958 to provide a Canadian source for gemmological education and to act as a medium for communication and co-operation among those involved in all aspects of gemmology.
Their mandate includes the dissemination of knowledge and information, and the promotion of high ethical and professional standards within the sector.

Alan Hodgkinson has dedicated his working life to bringing gemmology to a wider audience, particularly the younger generation. He awakened an interest in the role that gemstones play, and have played, throughout history. By themselves, gemstones are inanimate objects until brought to life in the human context, but Alan has helped to open up this world of intrigue, wonder and fascination.
He has lectured about gemmology across the globe for over 50 years, helping to build the prestige and reach of gemmology, while receiving numerous awards relating to his dedicated study of the gem world.
That study and passion for gemmology is distilled into Gem Testing Techniques. Alan's daughter Valerie publishes and markets the book and she is delighted to ensure his work remains available to all who are enthralled by gemmology.
